How to Change Your Minecraft Skin in Java and Bedrock

Keep your PNG intact, choose the correct character model, and use the current skin controls for Minecraft Java or Bedrock Edition.

Before you import the skin

Use the original skin PNG rather than a preview screenshot. Do not resize, crop, or convert it after downloading. Minecraft needs the texture regions to remain in their exact positions.

Know whether the skin was designed for a Classic or Slim model. Classic arms are four pixels wide, while Slim arms are three pixels wide. Choosing the wrong model can make the arm textures look misaligned.

Change a skin in Minecraft: Java Edition

Open the Minecraft Launcher, choose Minecraft: Java Edition, and select the Skins tab. Choose New Skin, name it, select the Wide or Slim model, browse to the PNG, then choose Save & Use.

The official Minecraft profile also supports browser upload: open the Change Your Skin page, select Classic or Slim, choose the custom PNG, and upload it. Saving skins in your library makes it easy to switch back later.

Change a skin in Minecraft: Bedrock Edition

Open Bedrock Edition and enter the Dressing Room. Choose the character slot you want to edit, open Edit Character, and select Classic Skins to view the skin choices available on that platform.

Bedrock options can differ by device and platform. If a custom PNG import control is available, use the original file and select the matching model. If it is not shown, consult the current support guidance for that platform rather than altering the file.

Check the result in-game

Turn the character around and check the face, shoulders, arm sides, torso back, and leg seams. If the arm texture looks wrong, confirm the Classic or Slim model selection first.

Keep a copy of the downloaded PNG in a dedicated folder. The original file is the fastest way to restore the skin if you change devices or experiment with another look.

Put the guide to work

Turn the next character idea into a skin.

In the Studio, describe the role, outfit, colors, and a defining detail, then choose one to four skins to generate.
